A great time was had by all. Truly A celebration for a president. Thanks to the support of many donors, friends and volunteers the ball was a success. The Silent Auction was profitable and well attended. Our dedicated Board Members and volunteers provided so much great and authentic food, organized a beautiful table and provided terrific entertainment. Thank You All for a great evening.

Four more days! Things are coming together at the museum and we are all excited to host our first ball. We hope you have signed up already. If not, feel free to email us your reservation!
Here is an image of quotes about 18th century balls. Enjoy reading! Nine days to the ball! You know what that means!? Almost time for some amazing 18th century birthday cake. Did you know they had birthday cake back then? Yes! But it is not like what we know today. A traditional cake that George Washington would have eaten was a bunt spice cake. There are five types of spices, two types of candied citrus peel, and is doused in brandy and sherry. Here is the recipe we will be using for the ball minus the brandy and sherry. http://recipes.history.org/2012/03/to-make-a-rich-cake/
In 23 days the museum will be hosting a ball in honor of our first president George Washington! In preparation to the event we will be posting historic quotes about balls in the 18th century.
"No Lady to be admitted in a nightgown and no gentleman in boots. Dancing is to begin precisely at 5 o'clock afternoon in the winter. Each set not to exceed ten couples to dance but one country dance. Couples to dance their minuets in the order they stand in their individual sets. No dance to begin after 11 at night. No tea, coffee, negus or other liquor to be carried into the dancing room."- First Assembly minute book, December 16, 1746. |
