We're at table X28 just up the aisle from the Military History Center of the Carolinas and Confederate Museum & Library exhibits. www.scgunshows.com Thank you to the attendees and especially the ladies of the Snow Campaign Chapter for decorating and providing wonderful refreshments and Ms. Carol Bettencourt, a new addition to our board and owner of our neighbor Artisan Dance, for calling and teaching the dances.
A message from Dot Cooley of the Snow Campaign Chapter, NSDAR: "A celebration of George Washington’s 286th birthday was held February 25th at the Simpsonville Arts Center. The Museum of Revolutionary War History sponsored the event of colonial dancing and good wishes for the first President of the USA. Official cake cutting was presented by Museum Director Tom Weidner and Snow Campaign DAR Chapter Regent Loretta Woods. Also in attendance were several local residents dressed in period celebration attire for the evening. Ms. Carol Bettencourt called the dances and gave instructions as needed. Many thanks to the Simpsonville businesses that sponsored the fabulous silent auction. The Snow Campaign Chapter, NSDAR was honored to participate and help sponsor this event. Many thanks to all for making this a successful event ! ! !" Photos are up on our gallery and Facebook. You can always see our upcoming events on our Events page, but you can also find them on our Facebook page. Recently added:
An Evening With Mr. John Slaughter: "African Americans and their role in the American Revolutionary War" George Washington Birthday Ball Thank you to those supporters who donated to the museum during our campaign. We raised $159 which will help us continue to operate in the community.
While we did not reach our goal of $500, we appreciate any and all support. This campaign may have been monetary, but there are other ways to donate -- time, skills, or items, to name a few. The museum will gladly accept. Please remember that we are a 501c(3) organization and your donations are tax deductible. Our December 16th "Evening With" talk was by Joe Epley on "The Tory David Fanning," based on his new book, "A Passel of Trouble."
Check back to this blog post for a review. YouTube video here. You can find out more about Mr. Epley's books at www.epleywrites.com. Our November 18th "Evening With" talk was by Frank Finizia on "The American Revolution and Battle of Yorktown".
Frank’s talk on the Battle of Yorktown was enlightening. He painted a picture of all of the events that helped to shape this final piece in the fight for independence. There is no shortage on qualified speakers here at the museum and if you want to learn not only about the Battle of Yorktown, but also the context behind it, then I would give Frank’s talk a listen. Mark Czapiewski YouTube video here. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the museum. We had an excellent dramatic reading about the murder of Mary Austin, who was killed by Indians. We roasted many marshmallows on the fire afterwards and it was a wonderful time to relax and talk. I hope that if you didn’t get a chance to come to this event, you’ll join us in the coming months!
