Planning an event takes a lot of work. Organizing and time management skills are key to getting the job done. If you wait to the last minute you might be in big trouble! That is why we have been taking the past few months to plan for our 3rd Annual Colonial Faire. We wanted to create a faire that gave visitors a true colonial experience. Yes, we are cutting it close with a few things, but we have come through well and believe we are prepared for this Saturday.
The Colonial Faire takes place in our backyard. We host vendors from all over and have live demonstrations of cooking, dancing, blacksmithing, and more. It is a lot of fun to show people what colonial life was really like. Many only know from what they have seen on t.v. or learned in school. By coming out to the faire our visitors are gaining first hand experience into the everyday living of our Founding Fathers.
We did have a few challenges along the way though. Our biggest problem was finding shade. For the past two years we have had a big circus tent up but due to a bad storm this winter we no longer have it. We could not find anyone to donate tents to us until Tom had the bright idea of asking local funeral homes! Now we have two bigger tents that we will be able to use. Another hurdle was tables for our vendors. We asked a lot of churches and the local parks department with no luck. I am not sure if this problem has been resolved yet and as of last Wednesday we only had two. Hopefully we will be able to get some tables in quick!
On a positive note, a local dance troop located in our building will be showing colonial dances throughout the day. Four groups of musicians have also been lined up to play authentic music. I will be baking three types of colonial cookies for guests to buy at our bake sale table. A blacksmith will also be demonstrating his craft and selling various hand made items. Guest will be welcome to walk into the museum during the event. We have made quite a few changes from last year and hope to show you what we have been doing.
Though we had our ups and downs I believe that the Faire will come together nicely. We are excited to host this event and can not wait to see you all there.
