Library and museums seem to go hand in hand. If you visit a museum it is nice to be able to research more on the topic you just learned about. Many museums have a research room where they have complied all the information and history concerning their collection. Our museum has a library that covers various topics about the United States and not just the Revolutionary War. You can look up anything from presidents to religious groups that influenced America. Tom keeps his entire genealogical history on hand for anyone to look through. He has found several distant cousins this way! Our library is a one stop shop for American history.
A few months ago the museum took a trip a field trip to three local museums. One thing that we liked in the Confederate Museum and the American Legion Museum was the use of a separate room to house the library. Up until a few weeks ago we had all our books crammed into the main exhibit room. This did not allow a lot of room for the books or researchers. Bonita Whitmire, our Librarian, has begun the process of cataloging the books and moving them to the Board Room. She has also donated three small bookshelves to fit perfectly in an old coat cubby. Now researchers can come in and begin to see all the books in our collection.
Libraries are a needed source of information. Sometimes you can not find everything online. Our library certainly has a lot of useful information for the visitor to look through. If you ever need assistance researching or just have a question about the Revolutionary War, we are happy to help. So come on down to the museum and check out our library!
